Road Transportation in Sri Lanka is considered a vital pre-requisite in Economic Development. Provision of reliable transport facility for easy mobility of people and goods stimulates economic growth
It helps to improve educational standards, health condition, and social standard of the people
Improved transport infrastructure will enhance communication facilities and improves economic social standard of the people
Having understood these facts His Excellency the President has pledged through ‘Mahinda Chinthanaya’ to develop all Rural Roads under ‘Maga Neguma’ with the broader objectives of developing every village with all facilities
Development Update Maga Neguma Progress 2006
2003 Rural Road Projects were taken up in the year 2006 in 25 Districts aiming at completion of 2000 k.m. of roads Rupees 1800 million was allocated to commence work. Rs. 1800 million has been spent at the end of year 2006 completing 4926 road projects giving benefits to 71904 families.Total rehabilitated distance was 2283.98 kilometers and it was 114% physical progress of the year.
